Allgemeine Datenbank Microsoft Academic

Aaron Tay hat in seinem Weblog "Musings About Librarianship" eine Betrachtung über die allgemeine Datenbank Microsoft Academic eingestellt. Er sagt, sie sei 2016 eingerichtet worden - wir hatten aber schon in unserem Buch Recherche 2.0 einen Link dafür angegeben. - Grund dafür ist, dass die jetzige Datenbank  Microsoft Academic in mehreren Exemplaren auf dem Markt war, meiner Erinnerung nach ist die jetzige bereits die dritte Ausgabe. Die damalige hieß "Microsoft Academic Search" Immerhin kommt man auf die neue Edition, wenn man in unserem Buch auf den Link der alten klickt. Aaron Tay stellt heraus:

1. It matches meta-data only not full text
2. It is a semantic search more than a keyword search and does not support Boolean operators like OR and AND
3. It now allows field searching and phrase quotes that bring you closer to keyword searching (new as of May 2020), but with limitations
4. Microsoft Academic's new "loose semantic query interpretation" will drop terms even quoted ones
5. When matching terms in "field of study" (Microsoft academic autogenerated hierachical subject system), the subject terms are not "exploded"
6. You cannot order by citations but only by "saliency" and "most estimated citations" (explanation of what these are)"

Alles in allem ist die Recherche in Microsoft Academics brauchbar - man kann sie alternativ zu Google Scholar einsetzen.
